•• President: Bob Geballe, [email protected]
I am not a farmer, but my hands certainly get dirty. From weeding my mother’s garden (reluctantly), to tearing up a lawn and growing basil and tomatoes in the late 1960s, to my current large veggie patch at my house outside of Poulsbo, growing and learning have long been staples of my life.I arrived in Kitsap County about 35 years ago, after a long stay on the east coast and joined the KCAA about fifteen years later. It has been an opportunity to grow and learn for me - and get to know and support the community of farmers and farm-friendly folks in the area. I was elected President of the board before the disruption of Covid, and am now actively working to re-animate this wonderful organization. Since I retired from teaching (at Kingston High School), I can now devote time (though never enough) to the KCAA. I find it endlessly fascinating, challenging, inspiring and rewarding.
•• Vice President: Karissa Holcombe, [email protected]
I come from a long line of farmers and homesteaders - but I grew up in the suburbs of Northern California. My husband’s military career has taken us all over the world - but brought us home to Kitsap County in 2021.I live on a small homestead in Poulsbo with my husband Geno and our 4 children. We’ve built a sanctuary for farm animals on our grounds - where pigs, goats, ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, and guinea pigs are happily living out their best lives. We grow food on about 1/4 of an acre and most of my adult life has been spent trying to learn and rediscover the ways of my grandparents - mostly through growing and canning food for my family.Locally and most recently - I’ve had the great honor of working with and learning from Nikki Johanson at Pheasant Fields Farm. I’ve also held the position of Regional Small Farms Education Coordinator at WSU’s Kitsap Extension. My motto is: The more you know, the more you grow! Let’s keep learning & growing!
•• Secretary: Melody Shipman, [email protected]
Hi! My name is Melody and I’m a lifelong North Kitsap Resident. I live on 2/5+ acre homestead in Kingston, where my husband and I raise our two kids, a ridiculous number of chickens and ducks, turkeys, pigs, goats, dogs, and cats, as well as an ever-expanding garden and orchard.I currently work at Kitsap Fresh and I’m passionate about empowering our community to learn about where real, nutritious, affordable food comes from: right here in Kitsap County!

•• Board Member: Jeremy Anunson, [email protected]
I am a lifelong resident of North Kitsap! My family has owned and operated Woodpecker Hill Farms for the past 8 years, where we raise primarily beef and pork, produce honey and provide educational opportunities for the community to connect with agriculture. What I love most about our community is the natural beauty - the saltwater landscapes, beautiful farms, forests, and wonderful people. I enjoy spending time with my wife, our 4 children, and working together with them to plan events for the community. We’re always working to improve our farm’s ability and capacity to produce quality proteins for our community.
•• Board Member: Geno Holcombe, [email protected]
I recently retired from the United States Navy after 23 years of service. The Navy brought me all over the world, but my life started on a farm in Minnesota. I grew up eating fresh food daily in the summer months, and Grandma canned vegetables in the winter. Living in cities during my time in the Navy helped me realize how important farmland and agriculture are to our community, and how important it is for our children to experience and know that food doesn’t just come from a shelf in a grocery store. My wife Karissa and I decided to stay in Washington after our last tour in the Navy and purchased a small piece of property to start Karissa’s dream of starting an animal sanctuary. When not working at NUWC Keyport, I find myself doing odd jobs around our house, improving our fencing (never ending battle), and shuttling our four kids around Kitsap County for sports or other activities.
