Weed Management Class at EB Daniel Farm & Garden

by Karissa Holcombe — May 4, 2024

On Saturday, May 4th, the KCAA held its first in-person educational event at EB Daniel Farm & Garden in Olalla!

This free event was the first in a social networking and educational series for Kitsap Farmers, supported by WSU Kitsap Extension and the Russel Family Foundation Food for Climate Solutions Grant.

Broox and Eric Daniel demonstrated in the field how they space their crops with weed management in mind. They shared their weeding program and the tools that they use to keep weeds to a minimum on their farm. Varying weed management techniques were demonstrated including wire weeding, flame weeding, plastic mulching, deep mulching with wood chips, high tunnel and greenhouse weeding.

Each registered attendee received a free wire weeder to take home ($70 value!), and light snacks and refreshments were provided by the KCAA.

This class was part one of an in-person series of social networking events offered by the Kitsap Community & Agricultural Alliance (KCAA), with support from WSU Kitsap Extension. These networking opportunities will run from May 2024 through February 2025, with the goal of bringing Kitsap Farmers together to network, build community, create new business connections and friendships, and provide education and mentoring opportunities. The events will give farmers in Kitsap a venue for peer-to-peer discussion, and encourage them to become more connected as a farming community.
