KCAA Hosts Weed Management Class at EB Daniel Farm & Garen

by Karissa Holcombe — May 4, 2024

On Saturday, May 4th - the KCAA, in partnership with WSU Kitsap Extension, hosted their first in-person social networking event under the Russel Family Foundation’s Food for Climate Solutions grant. This special Farm Walk and weeding demonstration was held at EB Daniel Farm & Garden in Olalla.

Despite the rain, over a dozen farmers showed up to learn about small farm weed management from Broox and Eric Daniel. The Daniels shared the tools that they use to keep weeds to a minimum on their farm - including wire and flame weeding, and crop spacing. They identified weeds and their root structures, and each registered attendee received a FREE wire weeder to take home!

Stay tuned for more (FREE) learning opportunities this summer for Kitsap Farmers!

This class was one part of an in-person series of social networking events offered by the Kitsap Community & Agricultural Alliance (KCAA), with support from WSU Kitsap Extension. These networking opportunities will run from May through November 2024 with the goal of bringing Kitsap Farmers together to network, build community, create new business connections and friendships, and provide education and mentoring opportunities. The events will give farmers in Kitsap a venue for peer-to-peer discussion, and encourage them to become more connected as a farming community.
