KCAA Hosts Season Extension Class, in partnership with the Kitsap Conservation District

by Karissa Holcombe — Jul 22, 2024

On Monday, July 22nd - the KCAA, in partnership with WSU Kitsap Extension and the Kitsap Conservation District hosted an in-person class on Season Extension Techniques.

Diane Fish (KCD Program Coordinator) and Teddy Krause (GRACE Garden Farm Manager) took Kitsap farmers, producers and homesteaders on a tour of their greenhouse and high tunnel, explaining how these tools can be used to help farmers continue to grow food throughout the year. They highlight some of the season-extension materials that they use to help moderate conditions and extend production across seasons (electronic records keeping, multi-cropping, crop storage, crop rotation, shade cloth, mulches, hoops + more).

We are so grateful to both Diane and Teddy for passing on their great knowledge, troubleshooting with guests, providing resources and answering questions! This class was Part 1 of a 2-part series - so keep your eyes peeled in November for the follow-up experience! All are welcome.

✨This class was one part of an in-person series of social networking events offered by the Kitsap Community & Agricultural Alliance (KCAA), with support from WSU Kitsap Extension and the Russell Family Foundation. These networking opportunities will run from May through January 2025 with the goal of bringing Kitsap Farmers together to network, build community, create new business connections and friendships, and provide education and mentoring opportunities. The events will give farmers in Kitsap a venue for peer-to-peer discussion, and encourage them to become more connected as a farming community.
